EPREL Certificate

One of the requirements to complete registration in EPREL is to sign the registration document electronically with a qualified seal. Suppliers therefore need a legal person electronic certificate on a cryptographic signature creation device (e.g., a token). This type of certificate cannot be installed in the computer’s certificate store.

Companies that need to register in EPREL must therefore acquire a certificate that proves their identity and enables them to generate qualified seals.

In our blog, you can learn about the difference between a seal and a signature and the requirements they must meet to be classed as qualified.

A qualified certificate is essential for companies that require the energy label for their products, since, without it, registration in the database is not possible.

The EADTrust EPREL certificate allows the identification of legal entities and the signing of documents, guaranteeing their authenticity.

What is EPREL?

The European Product Registry for Energy Labelling (EPREL) is a database set up by the European Commission in which suppliers must register their products in order to obtain the energy label required to place them on the market. Thanks to these labels, consumers can find out information on energy consumption, water consumption, noise emissions, minimum warranty and dimensions, among others, guiding them towards the product models best suited to them.

What is a token?

A cryptographic token is a qualified signature creation device. According to the eIDAS Regulation, for an electronic signature to be qualified, it must be based on a qualified certificate and created on a qualified signature creation device. If the certificate is not issued using this type of device, even if the certificate is issued by a qualified provider, the signature or seal will be classed as advanced, rather than qualified.

This means that if you need to generate qualified signatures, you must use a cryptographic device. If you already have one, you can reuse it with EADTrust. We will issue your certificate on the device you already have.

What documentation do I need?

To obtain this certificate you will need:

  • The identity document of the natural person: DNI / NIE.
  • Notarized power of attorney evidencing the current representation.
  • A sworn statement declaring that the power of attorney is in force and has not been previously revoked.

You must also provide the following information:

  • Tax identification number of the entity (CIF/NIF).
  • Address of the entity.
  • Contact telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of the managers of the entity.
  • Copia de los estatutos de creación de la entidad.
  • Companies requesting a certificate that already have a cryptographic device can reuse their device. They just need to send it to us so that we can issue their certificate on it.
